Signed by Brazilian designer Gissa Bicalho, a unique, hand made contemporary brooch, renowned for her use of bold materials and architectural color-blocking. This piece is executed in layered acrylic, wood, and resin, with accents of metal screws, a central pearl, and faceted black stones.
The design takes the form of a stylized scarab, an ancient symbol of rebirth and protection, here reinterpreted through modernist geometry and vibrant color. The upper section combines turquoise and black framing with a mounted pearl. The wing casings are rendered in warm wood panels outlined in red acrylic, joined by a vertical spine of black faceted stones. The sculptural layering creates depth, while the polished surfaces emphasize light and contrast.
This brooch exemplifies Gissa Bicalho’s signature approach: mixing industrial materials with historical and symbolic references, transforming jewelry into wearable pop-architectural statements.
Please note the artistry of this item: Labour intensive work. They are not made in a mould like the mass-produced cheap resin brooches. This is art, collectible and beautiful. A Romy's fav!
